Generator Strategy: Myths About Responding

Hello dear Generator!

There are so many misunderstandings about Generators.

The first one is about what it means to ‘respond’. Generators are meant to only act on a decision when their gut gives an excited ‘hell yes!’

Are you meant to just sit back and do nothing while you wait?

Not exactly…

3 Myths About ‘Responding’

  1. You don’t need to ‘wait around’ to respond. Your body is constantly responding to the world around you, when you browse online, scroll social media, talk with friends, or go for a walk.
  2. You must learn to distinguish between your responses. When you get a full body or strong gut excited ‘response’, that’s when you know it’s a hell yes for you. It is usually accompanied by a surge or energy or a buzz. Weaker, unsure, or maybe responses are all no.
  3. If you have nothing to ‘respond’ to, practice and explore! Get someone to ask you ‘yes’ and ‘no’ questions, or scroll on social media for new inspiration. You can test it for small decisions, such as seeing what excites you when deciding what to eat or do.

What Does a Real ‘Response’ Feel Like?

So, Generators are meant to ‘respond’ to the world around them. Your body will tell you what is the best decision and when to invest energy. Otherwise, you waste energy and end up frustrated (who’s been there?).

But how do you tell a real ‘response’ from a fake one?

  • The most important tip: your ‘gut response’ is black and white. If it’s not an absolute and strong  ‘yes,’ it’s a ‘no.’ Weaker, ‘maybe’ and unsure responses are no.
  • It can feel like an excited hit in your gut or an energetic buzz. Your eyes might spark or you sit forward in excitement. Look for how your body reacts to things that you are passionate about.
  • You may get other hints in your body to confirm your decision, such as positive and negative sounds and noises, feeling expansive (yes), or feeling restricted or dread (no).
  • Some people are Emotional Generators (or ‘emotional’ authority), and should wait a day or longer to make sure it’s not an emotional decision. They may feel less instant clarity than Sacral Generators.
